ALKA REEF + is a liquid solution that maintains alkalinity and pH in the reef aquarium at their optimum level by providing carbonate ions.
The role of ALKA REEF + in seawater aquariums
pH is one of the essential parameters to monitor in a reef aquarium, indeed significant variations in its level are dangerous for the organisms that live there. In this environment, carbonate and hydrogen carbonate ions are mainly responsible for overall alkalinity and, by their buffering capacity, help to limit these undesirable pH variations.
Carbonate and hydrogen carbonate ions are also used by calcifying species, such as corals and encrusting algae, to form calcium carbonate from their rigid structures.
It is therefore essential to add these ions regularly in a reef aquarium.
ALKA REEF+ provides carbonate ions to maintain the alkalinity level of your aquarium at its optimum.
It works in synergy with CALCI REEF+, a calcium hydrogel with progressive release of hydrogen carbonate ions.
The combination of these two products generates an ionic balance close to that of natural seawater.
However, we recommend regular water changes.
ALKA REEF+ does not contain gluconates
Using ALKA REEF+ in your aquarium
It is important to regularly measure the alkalinity of your aquarium and readjust it between 2.5 and 4.0 meq/L (either 125-200 ppm CaCO3 or 7.0-11.2 d°KH).
The amount of ALKA REEF+ to be used must be adapted to each aquarium and cannot be generalized.
It is recommended to add 2 doses of ALKAREEF+ to 1 dose of CALCIREEF+.
Wait at least half an hour between the addition of ALKAREEF+ and CALCIREEF+.
Ready-to-use liquid solution. Shake vigorously before use.
To be poured into the flow of the current.
